The Inside Adwords blog just announced that in an effort to focus on user relevance, Google will only selectively be displaying Broad & Phrase matches. We agree with Google on this, and our business, by and large, has been focused on building highly targeted campaigns using proprietary keyword research & campaign optimization technology. A lot of PPC firms are lazy and bid almost entirely on broad matches, Google’s latest move focuses further on user relevancy - so I’ll be interested to see the impact that it will have on these companies.

I was recently interviewed for Revenue Magazine, the industry standard for performance marketing and the May/June issue is finally out. And, no I’m not trying to punt this publication shamelessly, I have been a subscriber since issue 1 and if you read their back issues, you will see that (given the effluxion of time and the benefit of hindsight) they do push the envelope, research the topics and provide good foresight into the industry in all their editorials and articles. I think they’ve grown the circulation to about 50,000 per edition, which is incredible, given that (for example) our office of 50 people share 1-2 magazines at at time.
You can buy the digital version online or subscribe to the print publication. My article is on Page 100.
Happy Reading!

So I’m finally back from my 3-week long trip around the globe - it’s been great, and I got to see Munich for the first time. What a great way to relax from a long trip - we have a long weekend!
This weekend marks two public holidays in Cape Town, viz. Freedom Day (the date of the first democratic elections back in 1994) - 27th of April (i.e. Today), and Workers Day (1st May). This also means that most of the incuBeta team will be out of office for the long weekend, until Tuesday, so if you don’t receive a response immediately, please be patient. If you need anything urgently from anyone, please contact me on my Gmail account.

The beauty of being in Boston! I got to go to Fenway park for the first time ever to watch the Red Sox play against Tampa Bay. This was straight after the PubCon Pub conference (the one with alcohol).
Many thanks to the guys over at Commission Junction for taking us to the game - we had a great time, with great seats!!

I had the pleasure of seeing the Blue Man Group in Boston for the 3rd time in about 4 years. It’s a fantastic show, and I encourage everyone to go and see it if they ever get a chance to!
We also went with some Googlers, to the show:
From the far left, James Sandora, our Account Manager, Frederick Vallaeys - Senior Product Specialist at Google Adwords, Charlene Troskie (incuBeta), Blue Man (Blue Man Group
), yours truly & Andrew Smit (incuBeta). Giles Douglas, our CEO, took the photo.
Just as a sidenote, Frederick was one of the speakers at PubCon Boston 2006, and he is one of the most knowledgeable Adwords Googlers I have ever met, (along with James Sandora, of course!).
