We’ve just released a major new upgrade of SynthaSite’s Site Builder, which we believe is a substantial improvement over the previous version. At SynthaSite, usability is a key focus, and we recently hired a Director of User Experience and a User Interaction Designer - most startups will not focus this much on usability - which I personally do not agree with. When building web applications, one of the most important things to remember is that average Internet user does not have the patience to go through the learning curve of your product - you need to make it as easy as possible, with as few steps as possible to achieve what your solution offers.

We spent many months this past year trying to figure out how to improve our offering to the average Internet user. We conducted live, in-person usability tests, to outsourced ones with usertesting.com. We a team of guys from MIT conduct usability testing with the man on the street. We also contracted in the guys over at Momentum Design Labs in San Francisco, including Brad Damphousse who did some excellent work for us, much of which is being released today.

So, here’s something that I thought was really cool! The tech team at SynthaSite have mashed up Picnik & SynthaSite in the latest update of SynthaSite.

Instead of creating an entire photo editor, it was far simpler to use Picnik’s API’s and embed the web application into SynthaSite. This is a great example of how web applications make integration with each other so much easier through the use of web services.

In addition, Synthasite now also allows you to use your own domain name with your websites (instead of mysite.synthasite.com)! There is a lot more to come, stay tuned…!

Ok - so you wonder why things have been quiet on this blog? Apart from the fact that I’ve been at home for only 4 night this past 7 weeks - I’ve been busy with the all the background details around this announcement and the great news is that Synthasite has finalized an investment round of $5m from Swiss based Richemont.
