Let’s Disqus

I’ve been looking for a more efficient system to replace the flawed commenting practices that blogs currently employ. There are number of up and coming services that look very good, such as SezWho & Disqus. After much deliberation, I have opted to go with Disqus (with a bit of help from Louis Gray :) )

Basically, Disqus allows me to centralize my comments and create a threaded environment that is far more intuitive than the current commenting system. For more information on Disqus, have a look at their FAQ.

I have two options going forward – the first is to only use it on old and new posts that have no comments (which is what I’ve already done – as you will see with this post), the second option is to apply it to the whole site and move all the historic comments into Disqus. I’ve very keen to do this, but before I do, I thought I’d test it out and get your feedback!

Join the “Disqussion” and let me know if you think I should move everything across…

I’ve found it interesting how it creates referals to you site (you see someone’s comment on Friendfeed or their blog and head over to the initial post). I’ve enjoyed playing with it.

    Welcome aboard!

This app is most engaging and facilitating. Even though my company blog is still under development, I am convinced Disqus will grow into a “gotta have” in no time. It kinda “forumifies” your site, so now there is no more need for a blog and a forum.

the one major challenge we still have (not just here in South Africa) is that more people have mobile handsets than have PCs.. even in countries with bandwidth but no real hardware. how do we bridge that gap?
i’m in discussions with a programmer friend of mine who worked for clickatell on the viability of developing technology that can stream radio to mobilephones via the WAP platform. perhaps the same could be done for blogs and blogging.. some type of micro technology that includes the .mobis and other WML-developed properties…

then again.. i could not be as well-read as i think i am..
