Where I’ve Been Acquired for $3m

Yup, it’s starting. Inside Facebook just reported that the “Where I’ve Been” Facebook app has been acquired, just 2 months after launching – for $3m!! Facebook is becoming the new Web Platform, as I hinted in my post, “Facebook is the New Internet“. Start building those applications – the gold rush is upon us!

Inside Facebook notes: “TripAdvisor’s Brian Payea has responded: “This is untrue. Beyond that, we do not have any comment.” Payea would not specifically comment on whether acquisition hasn’t happened or simply that the reported price was inaccurate. Take it for what you will…but for now, though this is not a ridiculous price given the canvas page views and CPMs I would expect Where I’ve Been to be generating, it seems like the first big Facebook app acquisition is still yet to happen.”

I read this a few months back. The guy who created the app was losing money like crazy on the hosting, and couldn't figure out how to make money off of it. So he just turns around and sells it for a few mill – nice!
